The Real Cost of Winter Plumbing & Heating Woes
The months of November to February are the busiest for UK plumbers!
A recent survey by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles found that 85% of plumbers experience an increase in demand during this colder time in comparison to the milder months of the year.
As temperatures tumble, boilers inevitably fail and pipes will burst, leading to a surge in need for heating and plumbing services. However, this increased demand for plumbers outstrips all other trades during the winter months, with a reported one in four homeowners having difficulty finding a reliable plumber.
As demand outweighs supply, the survey found that 67% of those asked admitted to having to turn down at least one job they quote for each month, due to lack of availability and economic viability.
Data also highlights that the average cost of repairing a burst pipe during the months of November to February is £330 (including materials). With an estimated 150,000 qualified plumbers currently operating in the UK, that equates to almost £133 million in lost revenue – and an awful lot of homeowners left in the lurch this season!
